Carissa Waugh - Ékè Éwe

Kwanlin Dün First Nation

Whitehorse

My name is Carissa Waugh, my Northern Tutchone name is Ékè Éwe after my great-grandma Emma Shorty. I am Kwanlin Dün First Nation First Nation belonging to the crow clan. I was born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon. I am an artist; beading, painting, and cross stitch. Right now I am focusing on my beadwork. Almost a year ago, I had an amazing opportunity to travel to Ottawa to attend the Arctic Council meeting with other northern youth and officials. Before attending, I couldn't think of one thing I wanted to pursue in my future. After attending, I realized where I needed to be: with youth working on Climate Change action. I didn't think it would be possible with the current pandemic, but I am so grateful for this opportunity we have been given.
